An Olympic Marathoner’s diet
The Olympians are currently in Brazil, eagerly awaiting the start of the tournament on the 5th August.
Preparing themselves for the big day, all athletes are bound to follow a strict regimen and training routine. Speaking to INSIDER, American marathoner Desiree Linden, revealed her (secret) diet for when training vigorously.
Her day begins with coffee, espresso specifically. She pairs that with some peanut butter on toast and half an energy-bar for that initial protein kick.
After a training run, she has around three eggs to consume high amount of protein.
To keep her metabolism whirring throughout the day, she snacks little and often on dried fruit, nuts and cherries.
Her lunch is kept fairly light in order to maintain her energy levels – chicken sandwiches and avocado is her go-to.
For dinner Linden has a combination of meat and veg, which she mixes up everyday.
On the big Olympic day, she fuels herself on just white rice and sweet potatoes - simple as that!
